The Kissimmee River is the major source of water to Lake Okeechobee. It is also the site of a massive restoration project to restore the 100+ mile meandering Kissimmee that was straightened into a 50+ mile long canal in the 1960s. The Kissimmee is once again showing signs of life, as recovery of water quality, fish and birds has been extraordinary.
