Florida Bay suffers from a lack of freshwater inflow from the Everglades.  During drought, hypersalinity develops across the central bay, putting seagrass at risk of die-off.  The bay is known for its pristine water quality; however, when seagrass die-off occurs water quality suffers because of the dead grass and inability to stabilize sediments on the bottom of the shallow bay.  Florida Bay is one of the most important recreational saltwater fishing sites in the world.
