Biscayne Bay is a large seagrass-covered estuary, spanning from North Miami down to Key Largo.  Because of its high-urbanized watershed and flood control infrastructure, Biscayne Bay has suffered decades of nutrient pollution from outdated septic systems, broken sewage pipes, and canals that focus elevated levels of nutrients and freshwater into the bay.  The Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands project will help to reduce nutrient pollution to the bay by restoring mangrove wetlands along its coast and allowing water to filter naturally through these wetlands.
